Arrival (1/5/19)

From the moment we arrived into Cape Town on an early January morning the attitudes and atmosphere were noticeable. Everyone seemed quite pleasant, from the fellow travelers that undertook the 11-hour journey from our connecting Munich flight, to the airport staff that directed all of us weary tourists. The journey, one that I shared with my partner Duvessa, was met with many hiccups along the way, from missing our connecting flight in Munich due to a layover in San Francisco, to the airline sending both of our bags to Frankfurt instead of sending it on the same flight, the three days of travel that it took to get to South Africa from Portland incurred its toll on both of us mentally and physically. I was sure glad to be here. After a few days I quickly forgot about my excursion through airports and planes and began to settle into my role as observer of South African life. All in all, it took around 60 hours of travel from when we left Portland, Oregon to arrive in the Western Cape of South Africa.
